Powerplay: Incoming Update

At 7.00 am tomorrow morning (GMT), the monitoring of powers' activities will go offline for a short period while the latest data is assembled. Pilots who operate for one of the powers should deliver any cargo or vouchers before this time to ensure their activities are registered.

Freelance Report: Fungi Discovered on Airless Worlds

The Colonia Citizens Network has reported that fungal growths have been discovered on the airless world of Colonia 3 C A.

There appear to be four distinct species, which grow on silicate geysers. Mycologist Dr James Morel had this to say about the discovery:

"Based on the visual telemetry, I can say the shelf and puffball-like specimens fall under the basidiomycota phyla of fungi. The other two cannot be identified without studying physical samples."

"I urge explorers to handle the specimens with care, and to follow basic hazardous-material handing protocol. We don't know how these species might interact with living tissue."

The first data on the fungus was recorded by Commander Alesia of the Pilots Federation.

Julian McCoy of the Colonia Citizens Network Alien Research Division issued the following statement:

"The discovery of life, particularly in a remote region like the Colonia Nebula, is a remarkable achievement. I believe this find places new emphasis on the importance of colonization and expanding human knowledge of the galaxy."

Freelance Report: Irresponsible Independents Ransack Ruins

Following the discovery of ancient ruins on planet 1 B of Synuefe XR-H d11-102, hundreds of independent pilots have plotted a course to the system. Many scientifically-minded Commanders have begun the painstaking task of deciphering the secrets of the ruins.

Unfortunately, the cataloguing and excavation has been disrupted by piracy, profiteers and general pandemonium.

Jeremy Grant, an archaeologist who has been working at the site for several days, expressed concern at the prevailing conditions:

"It's not safe out here. The ruins have been significantly damaged by SRV racing. Priceless artefacts have been shattered and weapons fire has scarred several obelisks, destroying markings."

"Independent pilots have made a lot of noise about the Empire and Federation cordoning off major research sites, but if this is an indication of how independents treat sites of value, perhaps the superpowers are doing the right thing."

Galactic News: Pleiades Resource Enterprise Victorious

Recent reports from Maia indicate that the Pleiades Resource Enterprise has successfully overcome resistance from the Ant Hill Mob to gain a foothold in the system.

A spokesperson for the Pleiades Resource Enterprise released a brief statement:

"The Ant Hill Mob believes our expansion into Maia was orchestrated by Federal officials, but I think they're just looking for a way of explaining their defeat. In war, it's the stronger side that wins. Simple as that. We may be aligned with the Federation, but we were acting on our own behalf."

Pilots who contributed to the initiative are now free to collect their rewards from Maia Point in the Maia system.

Galactic News: Weekly Security Report

This report presents the latest data on the security status of the galaxy's minor factions.

Here are the latest factions to experience a lockdown:

Kokary Holdings

Ngaliba Blue Camorra

Liaedin Mafia

Inupiates Patrons of Law

Bhotho Rats

LHS 3384 Progressive Party

Ciboney Labour

Social Gabiko Liberals

Segoveduwa Empire Party

United Wat Yu Confederacy

When a faction experiences a lockdown, the security rating of the system it controls temporarily increases and the system's wealth temporarily decreases. Bounty hunting activity can shorten the lockdown period.

Here are the latest factions to experience civil unrest:

Kokary Holdings

Limapa Blue State Commodities

Zaragas Energy Corp.

Ngaliba Blue Camorra

Labour of Ethgreze

Apoyota Domain

HIP 26883 State Company

Nationalists of Aulin

Rajgonta for Equality

Leaders of LFT 1404

Civil unrest is the result of illegal activity. When a faction is affected by civil unrest, the standard of living in the system it controls temporarily decreases, as does the system's wealth. Combat missions and activities can bring civil unrest to an end.

Galactic News: Ancient Ruins Discovered

Four days ago, the galaxy was stunned by news that mysterious ruins had been discovered in the Synuefe XR-H d11-102 system.

The discovery was made by an independent pilot known by the callsign 'xdeath'. Once the find was made public, pilots from across the galaxy flocked to investigate the site.

Although a formal survey of the ruins has not yet been conducted, speculation is rife that they are of non-human origin. Images of the site, which show mysterious structures and a series of complex earthworks, appear to support this hypothesis.

The discovery of the ruins is only one of a number of remarkable finds made over the past few years. The Unknown Artefacts, Unknown Probes, the so-called organic structures and the crash site in the Pleiades Sector AB-W B2-4 system have piqued the curiosity of the entire galactic community. But the relationship between these discoveries – if any – has yet to be determined.

Galactic News: Weekly Economic Report

This report presents the latest data on the economic health of the galaxy's minor factions.

Here are the latest factions to experience an economic boom:

Eravate Life Services

LTT 700 Silver Federal Exchange

Dragons of Tepertsi

Liberty Party of Tau Ceti

LFT 1834 Corp.

Clan of LHS 1110

Independents of IL Aquarii

LFT 133 Exchange

Movement for Tetek Future

Textovices Universal Corp.

Boom is usually the result of consistent trade profit and completed trade contracts. When a faction experiences a boom, the wealth of the system it controls temporarily increases and trade missions completed in the system have double the effect on influence. The faction's influence may also increase. Booms typically last until they naturally expire.

Here are the latest factions to experience an economic bust:

E.X.O

Progressive Party of Bolg

Independent Guan Zaihe League

Co-op of Mbokokumal

Integrated Shu Babassi

Revolutionary 5 G. Apodis Values Party

Hojin Blue Dragons

Dukes of LTT 2893

Sorbacoc Society

Namniez Free

When a faction experiences a bust, the wealth of the system it controls is temporarily reduced and the faction's influence is temporarily diminished. Trade actions do not contribute to boom while a bust is active. A bust typically has to run its course before ending.

Galactic News: Weekly Expansion Report

This report presents the latest data on expansion and withdrawal among the galaxy's minor factions.

Here are the latest factions to have expanded into new systems:

Andhi Liberals

Kuo Zhi Partnership

Regulatory State of Kausan

1 G. Caeli Empire League

Earth Defense Fleet

Syndicate of Tiburi He

Justice Party of Anekaliti

Values Party of BD+43 2989

HIP 27371 Empire League

Values Party of Gliese 9204

Expansions occur when a minor faction reaches a sufficient level of influence and there is a populated system within striking distance. Expansion is costly, so when a faction expands, the wealth and development level of the system it controls are temporarily reduced.

Here are the latest factions in withdrawal:

Samen Crimson General Services

Munshin Allied PLC

Union of 6 Ceti Free

Narantan Nationals

Tz'utuls Progressive Party

Wolf 1051 State Industry

LTT 9810 Citizens' Forum

Workers of Kakas Free

Wei Chang Empire League

V857 Centauri Coalition

Factions are considered to be in withdrawal if their level of influence within a system drops below a certain level. If the faction's influence remains low for a total of five days, the faction must leave the system entirely. If the faction manages to increase its level of influence, it remains in the system.

Galactic News: Kahina Loren Found Guilty

Today, an announcement was made outside the Prism Hall of Justice confirming that Kahina Tijani Loren had been found guilty of the attempted assassination of Admiral Denton Patreus. The announcement was met with cries of dismay from a crowd of Loren's supporters, who had turned out to hear the verdict.

"Ms Loren has been sentenced to life imprisonment at Koontz Asylum in the Daibo system," said a court clerk.

A leaked recording from the press room showed Loren talking with two unidentified men. Their conversation ran as follows:

"And what do you want in return for your...favour?" one man asked.

"Patreus's head on a platter," responded Loren.

Having already been stripped of the title of 'senator', Loren's status as a Lady of the Empire was similarly revoked. She was taken to a secure holding facility after the verdict was announced.

Princess Aisling Duval spoke to The Imperial Citizen about the trial:

"The woman is clearly deranged. She tried to kill Patreus, but justice has been served. The galaxy is now a safer place."

Admiral Denton Patreus, emerging from the courtroom, smiled and said: "They that sow the wind shall reap the whirlwind."

Ambassador Cuthrick Delaney, administrator of the Prism system, spoke briefly to The Imperial Herald.

"We cannot deny the verdict, but we are dismayed by the outcome. We remain convinced that Kahina Loren is innocent. We will leave no stone unturned in our search for the truth."

Meanwhile, an anonymous source affiliated with the Imperial justice system said: "It's a de facto death sentence. No one returns from Koontz Asylum."
